Protests ensue in Georgia as new president is elected

Mikheil Kavelashvili, the new President of Georgia, is facing many protests, especially from those against Russian relations.

In Tbilisi, protests ensue as Georgia elects it’s new president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, who is known for being a “far-right” loyalist. This is particularly angering for the population of Georgia who are against Russian relations, due to far right Georgian politicians usually align with Russia more than Europe.

The Georgian Dream party has elected their new President, but some people are also criticizing him due to his”lack of a higher education”. He was the only person on the ballot, a very easy win for him.

The far-right in Georgia is often criticized not only due to their relations with Russia, but the fact they are more anti-LGBT, and against certain human rights.

The far right party has been recently pushing anti-human rights laws, which has seen a huge protest wave in Tbilisi.
