Peace in the East: Armenia & Azerbaijan have almost reached peace agreement.

This week, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has stated that they “have no reason to attack” or escalate anything against Azerbaijan. The government of Azerbaijan is also willing to agree on peace, but with some conditions that Armenia cannot fulfill.

The major condition they have argued on is the changing of the constitution. When the Armenian Republic was formed after the fall of the Soviet Union, this is what was in the declaration of Independence:

This text states that the Armenian republic will be reunited with Artsakh (Karabakh) and Nakichevan, which was handed to Azerbaijan during the soviet reign. This is the number one issue that Ilham Aliyev has with Armenia as of this point. Nikol Pashinyan is willing to make changes to the constitution, to help ease tensions, but there is also some things they don’t agree on.

All we can do is hope for a decades old tension to ease off, so no more innocent lives are ruined.
